Karl-Anthony Towns and Naz Reid were both New Jersey prep basketball stars who later teamed up with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
With the tragic news that Toraya Reid, Naz Reid’s older sister, was shot dead by her boyfriend Saturday night in Ocean County, Towns expressed his sympathies on social media
“Heartbroken,” Towns wrote. “No words can ever take away the pain for my brother. Holding everyone close in prayer today.”
Towns has dealt with his own family tragedies.
The Knicks star and Piscataway native lost seven family members to the coronavirus, including his mother, Jacqueline Towns, on April 13, 2020.
The practice court at Kean University is named after his mother.
Shaquille Green, 29, of Jackson, shot and killed Reid, 28, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Officers saw Green running nearby on New Prospect Road and arrested him without incident, authorities said.
Green is charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.
He was taken to Ocean County Jail, pending a detention hearing.
