Discount retailer Ocean State Job Lot is preparing to launch its second store in Atlantic County.
Located at 4215 Black Horse Pike in Mays Landing, the 34,120-square-foot space is scheduled to open this fall, the Rhode Island-based chain said in a Sept. 9 press release.
At Hamilton Commons, OSJL takes over an anchor space previously occupied by Big Lots.
In the wake of Big Lots’ September 2024 bankruptcy, Gordon Brothers Retail Partners acquired the deep discount retailer. The buyer specializes in distressed companies.
As part of the deal, Gordon Brothers facilitated the transfer of Big Lots’ brand, stores and distribution centers to other retailers.
OSJL acquired 18 former Big Lots stores along the East Coast, earlier this year. Besides Mays Landing, OSJL also purchased sites in Barnegat, Somers Point and Cape May.
The company says it plans to hire for up to 60 positions at each site, including leadership, supervisory, full-time, part-time and seasonal. Along with competitive pay and flexible hours, OSJL offers health benefits for some positions, profit participation, paid time off, 401(k) plans and a 30% store discount.
Founded in 1977, the chain sells an ever-changing array of brand-name, first-quality merchandise at closeout prices. Its products include:
- Household goods
- Apparel
- Pet supplies
- Seasonal products
- Kitchen pantry staples
- Specialty foods
Considered the Northeast’s largest, privately held discount retailer, Ocean State Job Lot has 176 stores, employs 7,000 associates and generates annual sales exceeding $850 million, the company said.
