Known for its thick, dessert-inspired treats, Chip City Cookies‘ newest offering aims to give customers a reason to stop by in the morning.
Starting Sept. 19, the New York City-based gourmet cookie chain will branch out to sell bagels exclusively at four locations, including its store on Church Street in Montclair.
According to Chip City, bagels will be available between 8 and 11 a.m. — or until they sell out. Then, the shops will switch over to cookies.
Bagels will cost $2 each and come in plain, chocolate chip, everything and blueberry. Chip City will also have pre-packed, 8-ounce cream cheese in a range of varieties, including plain, cookies & cream, Italian rainbow cookie, chocolate chip and triple chocolate.
Besides Montclair, bagels will be on the morning menu at Chip City stores in Astoria, Queens; Babylon, Long Island and New York City’s West Village.
Founded seven years ago, Chip City is popular for fresh-baked cookies that come in classic flavors, like chocolate chip. It also has a rotating menu of specialty flavors, such as cannoli, lemon berry, blueberry cheesecake and s’mores.
The fast-growing concept’s footprint of nearly 50 locations includes three New Jersey spots – Montclair, Hoboken and Ridgewood. A fourth shop is expected to open soon in Marlton.
‘The perfect place to grow’

Montclair is also home to another brand developed by Chip City co-founder and CEO Peter Phillips.
Located at 260 Bellevue Ave. in Montclair, Somedays Bakery’s menu includes premium croissants, soft-serve ice cream and La Colombe coffee.
In a statement to NJBIZ, Phillips said, “Montclair has been an exciting community for us to be part of. Its vibrant, always welcoming atmosphere and strong passion for quality and family-friendly values made it the perfect place for us to grow.”
“We’re looking forward to bringing something fresh and unique to the area with our cookie cream cheese offering, while continuing to deliver the delicious, indulgent baked treats that our customers love,” he said.
