As the gubernatorial election hits the home stretch, the New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA) is launching a new video series initiative aimed at spurring more informed voting.
In June, the NJBIA released its Blueprint for a Competitive New Jersey. The 28-page policy document offers candidates a roadmap to drive innovation and prosperity. NJBIA released the document to both hopefuls – Democrat Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli – ahead of its Meet the Gubernatorial event in June.
The newly launched NJBIA Blueprint Minute video series provides a summary of each chapter of the Blueprint. The series invites the Garden State business community and interested parties to check out the candidates’ respective positions and approaches to those issues.
The topics for the Blueprint Minute videos include:
- Budget and cost-saving reforms
- Consumer affairs
- Legal, & insurance
- Manufacturing & innovation
- Taxation & economic development
- Education & workforce development
- Employment & labor
- Energy
- Environmental
- Child care
- Health care
‘A critical election’
NJBIA says its has been holding continuing meetings and conversations with the candidates and their staff about the contents and direction of the policy document.

“We are very encouraged that both candidates have taken a strong interest in our Blueprint and in bringing much-needed improvement to New Jersey’s business climate,” said NJBIA President and CEO Michele Siekerka. “As this is such a critical election for New Jersey’s business community and our future affordability, NJBIA endeavors to bring as much information as possible, and as in palatable of form as achievable.”
Key things to know about the Blueprint Minute video series:
- Each installment is presented by Siekerka and NJBIA’s Government Affairs staff, featuring:
- Chris Emigholz, chief government affairs officer
- Ray Cantor, deputy chief government affairs officer
- Althea Ford, vice president of government affairs
- The videos are housed on NJBIA’s YouTube page and on NJBIA’s Blueprint webpage
- In the lead-up to the election, NJBIA will create web and social media posts this month featuring each Blueprint Minute – along with the candidates’ take on each issue
“This is not a time to bank on soundbites or even the politics of the day,” said Siekerka. “As the leading advocate for business in the state, it is our obligation to help inform those interested voters who will determine our next governor.”
