Garwood Councilman Vinnie Kearney released an ad Tuesday attacking his Republican opponents in the race to represent the Assembly in the 21st legislative district.
Kearney is seeking to flip the 21st legislative district, currently represented by Assemblywomen Nancy Muñoz (R-Summit) and Michele Matsikoudis (R-New Providence). The release did not specify how much money would back the ad.
The 30-second spot includes a friend and narrator stating that Muñoz and Matsikoudis did not support abortion rights and opposed gun policy reforms in the Assembly.
The ad also includes misleading claims about Republican gubernatorial nominee Jack Ciattarelli’s discussion of Tennessee’s sales tax policy. Ciattarelli has repeatedly said since the rally that he would not increase the sales tax, and none of his policy documents mention any proposed sales tax increases.
The other Democrat in the race, former prosecutor Andrew Macurdy, launched digital ads last month.
Democrats haven’t won the Union County-based 21st district since 1989, but it’s become a battleground. Kamala Harris carried the district by more than 12 percentage points last fall; Joe Biden won it by more than 17 points in 2020, and Hillary Clinton took it by almost 8 points in 2016.
Script:
[Stephanie Bianco] “We can’t count on Nancy Muñoz and Michele Matsikoudis when it matters. They didn’t stand up for abortion rights, opposed gun-safety laws. Now they stand at Jack Ciattarelli, even after he discussed a 10% sales tax on everything and said he doesn’t disagree with Trump on anything. Muñoz and Matsikoudis failed us, but Detective Vinnie Kearney won’t. He’ll fight to lower costs, protect our rights, and keep our communities safe.”
[Kearney] “Damn right. I’m Vinnie Kearney. Enough talk. Let’s get to work.”
