District 1199J of the National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees, a 10,000-member union of healthcare workers, endorsed Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) for governor on Friday.
Craig Ford, the president of 1199J, said Sherrill will support funding for healthcare and push for affordable healthcare.
“1199J is pleased to endorse Mikie Sherrill to be the next Governor of New Jersey,” Ford said. “She is a Democrat who has consistently supported increased funding for healthcare, including Medicaid. She has advocated for affordable healthcare for all Americans, particularly those with low income and our membership will assist in any way we can to ensure a victory.”
1199J endorsed Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop in the Democratic primary. Fulop, who ran an anti-establishment progressive campaign, finished third.
Sherrill will face Republican former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli in next month’s gubernatorial election.
