The Super Foodtown in Port Monmouth closed permanently a week earlier than initially announced, but the Circus Wines store next door is open.
The popular food store’s final day was Saturday after decades on Route 36 in the Monmouth County community, store officials confirmed Thursday.
A spokesperson for Food Circus Super Markets, Inc. said Thursday in an email that “Our Circus Wines store in Port Monmouth is still open and will remain open.”
The grocery chain announced the planned closure in a Facebook post earlier this month, saying the store would end operations “on or about Oct. 24.”
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our Port Monmouth store will be permanently closing,” the company said in the social media post.
The Route 36 location has served the Port Monmouth community for decades, according to the company.
Super Foodtown operates more than 60 stores across New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
