Wakefern Food Corp., at No. 3, employs 3,354 workers. Sean McMenamin and Mike Stigers oversee the supermarket retailer and wholesaler, which was established in 1946.
Next up is Pomptonian Food Service with 2,592 employees. Mark Vidovich, Candy Vidovich and Cathy Penna provide food service for students. The company began operations in 1959. Three generations have run it.
Doherty Enterprises Inc. employs 2,400 workers. Edward Doherty, Tim Doherty and Daniel Bratcher own and operate restaurants and salon suites. The family founded the business in 1985. Three generations have led it and the company comes in at No. 5 on the NJBIZ list.
Rounding out the top 10
Sixth is Viking Yacht Co. with 1,400 employees. Patrick Healey leads the company, which manufactures yachts in New Gretna. The company started in 1964. Three generations have built boats there.
NFI employs 1,200 workers, placing the company at No. 7. Sidney Brown, Ike Brown and Jeffrey Brown run the logistics company founded in 1932. Three generations have operated it.
PIM Brands Inc. has 1,000 employees manufacturing fruit snacks, gummies and confections. Allied Beverage Group employs 970 workers distributing beverages. Fedway Associates has 800 employees in wine, spirits, real estate, and logistics, placing it at No. 8.
Two Elizabeth-based companies, Allied Beverage Group and Fedway Associates and Affiliated Cos., round out the top 10.
