Rebecca Bennett’s campaign for New Jersey’s 7th congressional district has picked up another endorsement from a military veteran serving in Congress: Rep. Jason Crow, a former Army Ranger who has represented Colorado since 2019 and who served as one of the impeachment managers during Donald Trump’s first impeachment trial.
“Rebecca Bennett is the kind of servant leader we need in Congress,” Crow said in a statement. “She’s principled, pragmatic, and deeply committed to service. Rebecca spent her career not only fighting for our country, but for working people. She knows how to build coalitions to get things done, something Washington desperately needs. Rebecca understands that progress requires both courage and cooperation. I’m proud to endorse her for Congress because I know she’ll bring the same integrity and dedication to Congress that she’s shown throughout her career.”
Bennett, a former Navy helicopter pilot, previously received endorsements from New York Rep. Pat Ryan, Massachusetts Rep. Seth Moulton, and VoteVets, a prominent national group that supports Democratic veterans running for office.
Bennett faces a crowded Democratic primary for the right to take on Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-Westfield); also running are physician Tina Shah, businessman Brian Varela, former Small Business Administration official Michael Roth, climate scientist Megan O’Rourke, former Summit Councilman Greg Vartan, criminal justice professor Beth Adubato, and attorney Vale Mendoza.
Shah also counts a sitting member of Congress among her supporters, Kansas Rep. Sharice Davids. No member of Congress from New Jersey, however, has weighed in on the race; all of the New Jersey-based endorsements thus far have come from lower-level local elected officials.
