New Jersey voters are headed to the polls on Tuesday to elect a new governor after two terms of Gov. Phil Murphy (D) leading the state. Polls are now open until 8 p.m.
Republican Jack Ciattarelli, a former assemblyman, and Democrat Mikie Sherrill, a four-term congresswoman, are the front-runners to replace Murphy starting in January.
Ciattarelli and Sherrill have largely focused on affordability issues, agreeing that everything from groceries to electric bills to property taxes are too high. Here’s where the two stand on:
- Bail reform
- Affordable housing
- Medicaid changes
- Protections for undocumented immigrants
- New Jersey’s Arrive Together program for police
- Abortion
- The plastic bag ban
- Cellphones in classrooms
- Making New Jersey more affordable
- Police transparency
- Health care for transgender minors
- Merging school districts
