After a cold night Thursday with pockets of frost, New Jersey will see a warming trend for a few days before temperatures turn much colder next week.
Forecasters from the National Weather Service say high pressure will settle over the region tonight, allowing for clear skies and light winds.
Temperatures are forecast to drop to the upper 20s to upper 30s, prompting frost advisories for southern New Jersey, where the growing season remains active.
On Friday, New Jersey will see increasing cloud cover and southerly winds gusting up to 30 mph. Highs are expected to reach the upper 50s to mid-60s.
A chance of light rain moves in Friday night as a trough approaches from the west, but accumulations should be light, less than a half inch, forecasters say.
Saturday will see a mix of sun and clouds, with highs in the lower to middle 60s. Another storm system will bring a chance of rain showers on Sunday, with temperatures remaining above average, in the 50s.
Looking ahead, a stronger cold front is expected to move through late Sunday into Monday, ushering in the coldest air of the season so far.
Highs on Monday may only reach the 40s, with overnight lows potentially dropping below freezing in some areas.
The blustery conditions and below-normal temperatures are expected to persist through the middle of next week, the National Weather Service says.
