Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill’s administration is rapidly taking shape.
As reported earlier this week, Sherrill tapped Lt. Gov.-elect Dale Caldwell and Kellie Doucette to lead the transition.
On Nov. 6, Sherrill announced the first members of her senior leadership team, naming Alex Ball as chief of staff and Tim Lydon as chief counsel. Ball served as Sherrill’s campaign manager while Lydon most recently served as policy director and general counsel on her campaign.
“As we hit the ground running for New Jersey, I am excited to announce that Alex Ball will be my Chief of Staff, and Tim Lydon will serve as Chief Counsel,” said Sherrill. “Each of them brings exceptional leadership, integrity, competence, and a deep commitment to service. Their expertise and dedication will help us build an administration that delivers real results for New Jersey – a strong economy, affordable communities, and a state government focused on saving New Jerseyans time and money.”
Team building
Ball previously also served as Sherrill’s congressional chief of staff. She said it’s an honor to serve Sherrill and the people of New Jersey.
“This is a moment of great opportunity for our state, and I look forward to helping build a team that reflects New Jersey and delivers meaningful change for the people,” said Ball. “I have seen firsthand the grit and determination Mikie brings to serving others and this administration will be no different.
“Our team will take the values and vision of Mikie’s campaign to Trenton and deliver on an agenda that delivers for New Jerseyans.”
Lydon brings decades of public service experience to the team. He said he is proud to join and help advance Sherrill’s mission of “transparent, ethical, and accountable government.”
“Our administration will always put the public interest first,” said Lydon. “And I look forward to working together with Alex to serve a governor deeply committed to affordability and ruthless competence to deliver real results.”

The transition also announced the launch of a website – www.nj.gov/govelect. The site will serve as a temporary hub for transition information as well as opportunities for residents to get involved.
Key things to know:
- Website includes a resume submission portal for individuals interested in serving in the Sherrill administration
- Allows applicants to submit their resumes, share their experience and areas of interest
- Enables the transition team to connect with potential candidates for positions across all state departments and agencies
- A full website with more transition information will roll out in the coming weeks
“Our transition is focused on building an administration that reflects the best of New Jersey – it’s innovation, diversity, and deep commitment to public service,” said Sherrill. “Our transition is an invitation for talented and passionate people from across the state to step up and help us move New Jersey forward together.”
According to the transition team, when the full website is up, it will regularly post updates with news, announcements as well as resources leading up to Sherrill’s Jan. 20 inauguration.
