New Jersey State Police troopers shot a person in Essex County following a police pursuit of a vehicle Sunday afternoon, according to the state Attorney General’s Office.
The shooting occurred at about 2:10 p.m. “following a vehicular pursuit that ended in the City of Orange Township in Essex County,” the AG’s officer said in a brief statement that was issued Sunday night.
“One male civilian sustained injuries,” the statement said. “His identity and the identities of the law enforcement officers involved are not being released at this time.”
The attorney general’s office said “the investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time.”
The condition of the person who was shot was not disclosed by authorities.
Although the attorney general’s office did not disclose the roads where the police pursuit started and where the shooting occurred, a local news website reported that State Police fired shots at a suspect on Interstate 280 in Orange.
News 12 New Jersey showed video footage of numerous law enforcement vehicles and investigators on a stretch of I-280 in Orange, but the news agency had few details about the circumstances.
