Authorities in Burlington County are planning to make an announcement on Tuesday about a “significant development” in the investigation into the slaying of Sasikala Narra and her 6-year-old son, Anish Narra.
Sasikala, a 38-year-old from India, and her son Anish were found stabbed to death in a unit of the Fox Meadow Apartments in Maple Shade in March 2017.
Their deaths remain unsolved and as of Monday, authorities have not announced any charges or arrests in their killings.
Police were called to a residence at the Fox Meadow Apartments on Hamilton Road in Maple Shade just after 9 p.m. on March 23, 2017, by Sasikala’s husband, Hanumantha Rao Narra, after he found the bodies of his wife and son, investigators said in 2017.
Both had sustained multiple stab wounds, authorities said at the time of the incident.
She and her husband worked as technology consultants and had come to New Jersey from the Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh, on India’s eastern coast.
A recording obtained by NJ Advance Media of an emergency call Hanumantha made to police after finding his wife and son provides a graphic account of the crime scene.
“There’s blood everywhere,” Narra said to an emergency dispatcher when asked what was going on. This statement was repeated several times by him and a woman he identified as a neighbor in the recording.
Narra was also heard moaning, wailing and screaming as several dispatchers asked him what was happening. But at times he seemed to suddenly calm down. At one point a dispatcher asked him to hold on and he answered “sure.”
When asked what happened to his family he said, “I have no idea. I just came back from office and I found them. They’re not breathing. They have blood everywhere!”
The woman was also heard on the recording saying “Don’t go back in there.”
No one has been arrested or charged in their killings, but Hanumantha Narra was never ruled out as a suspect by authorities.
Narra received a nearly $1 million payout from Sasikala’s estate and life insurance policy in 2023, after a lengthy legal battle. Narra now lives in Colorado, according to public records.
Narra received 70% of his wife’s $1.4 million estate while the remainder was given to Sasikala’s mother in India.
A 14-part podcast on the unsolved killings called “Murder in Maple Shade” brought renewed attention to the case in 2023.
