Dr. Lilisa Mimms has announced her intention to seek re-election to an at-large seat on the Paterson City Council.
Mimms, the council president, was elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022. She has previously served on the Paterson Board of Education.
“There is still important work ahead, and I’m committed to continuing the progress we’ve made together,” Mimms said. “I’ll keep fighting for a more vibrant, inclusive, and forward-looking community.”
There has been speculation that Mimms would run for mayor had incumbent Andre Sayegh decided to challenge Rep. Nellie Pou (D-North Haledon) in the Democratic primary instead. Sayegh is now preparing for a third term.
“I’m excited to continue this journey and grateful for everyone who has stood with me. Let’s keep moving our city forward—together,” said Mimms. “Serving our community has been an honor, and over the past term I’ve worked hard to deliver on the priorities that matter most—strengthening local services, recreation and park improvements, promoting responsible development, improving public safety, enhancing quality of life and ensuring every neighborhood has a voice at City Hall.”
Mimms finished second in crowded fields for three seats in 2018 and was the top vote-getter when she sought re-election in 2022.
