New Jersey’s hospitality sector recently came together to celebrate some of its most impactful innovators and leaders.
During a sold-out Nov. 5 reception at Ryland Inn in Whitehouse Station, the New Jersey Restaurant and Hospitality Association recognized:
- The Kunisch Family of Mahwah Bar & Grill and Allendale Bar & Grill Restaurateur of the Year
- Eustace Mita Jr., chief executive officer, ICONA Resorts Hotelier of the Year
- Mike Perro, director of operations, P.J. Whelihan’s Deborah Dowdell Lifetime Achievement Award
- Marilou Halvorson, senior vice president, American Hotel & Lodging Association Hospitality Award
- Dale Florio, founder and managing partner, Princeton Public Affairs Friend of the Industry
- Jesse Jones, private chef and author Community Impact Award
The statewide trade association also named Jason Hanin of The Ebbitt Room in Cape May as executive chef of the year. The award was determined by the broader community during a voting period last month.
NJRHA President and CEO Daniel Klim remarked, “Each of our honorees represents what truly defines hospitality – resilience, creativity and a steadfast commitment to the people around them. Their leadership builds stronger communities, empowers teams and drives New Jersey’s hospitality industry forward with passion and purpose.”
Up until 2020, the NJRHA Awards took place annually as a way to celebrate the state’s vibrant restaurant and hospitality industry. It has been on hiatus since the pandemic, however.
NJRHA board Chair Denise Beckon reflected on the ceremony’s 40th anniversary this year.
“Our honorees, and so many across this industry, have a remarkable gift for creating memories that stay with people long after they leave,” Beckson said. “Hospitality is about emotion as much as service – making guests feel seen, cared for, and part of something special.”
