A Winslow Township Police officer was injured Wednesday morning when he was struck by a vehicle trying to leave a protest that was being broken up by cops, authorities said.
The protest was taking place on Marcia Court around 10 a.m., and police received a call that several people were trespassing on private property shortly after it began, according to a statement from the Winslow Township Police Department
The crowd was large and agitated, and police tried to calm the situation down, the department said. While doing so, a resident tried to leave the area on a Spyder-style three-wheel motorcycle.
While officers were managing the crowd, the vehicle struck an officer who suffered minor injuries, police said.
The unidentified driver of the vehicle was taken into custody, charged with an undisclosed crime and taken to the Camden County Correctional Facility, authorities said.
Detectives are reviewing the incident and reviewing footage from residential and officer body worn cameras to determine if any additional charges are warranted for anyone involved, the investigators said.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the Winslow Township Police Department at 609-561-3300.
