Essex County Commissioner Brendan Gill (D-Montclair) has received two more labor endorsements in his bid for New Jersey’s 11th congressional district: from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1158 and from Larry Hirsch, the acting president of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 913.
“Brendan Gill understands what it’s like to struggle to make ends meet, to worry about your job, your family, and your future,” Hirsch said in a statement today. “Raised in a union household by a public school teacher, he carries those values into his work, fighting for everyday people – not the powerful – and standing up for working families and public employees every single day in Congress.”
“Brendan has been a trusted voice representing the interests of hardworking men and women of labor in Essex County for the past decade,” IBEW Local 1158 Business Manager Joseph Calabro said yesterday. “He has consistently shown up and delivered for the people who keep our communities running. We are proud to endorse him to continue to lead the fight for union workers in New Jersey.”
Gill, one of 12 candidates seeking the Democratic nomination to succeed Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill, has also gotten union endorsements from the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Local 25, IBEW Local 164, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers New Jersey State Legislative Board, the Communication Workers of America Local 1031, the Hotel & Gaming Trades Council, the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association, and the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union Local 108.
