A judge rejected a last-minute effort to thwart a referendum on a $25 million school renovation project in Shamong that will be voted on Tuesday.
Superior Court Judge John Harrington heard a challenge Monday to a special school board referendum that apparently had inconsistencies between its public status and its on-the-ballot description. In public, officials said that up to 34% of the project could be funded by state dollars, while the ballot states that number could be as high as 40%.
Harrington said the inaccuracies in the public statements weren’t enough to void the election, and it will go forward tomorrow; it could still face challenges afterward, though.
Voters are weighing $25 million in upgrades at Indian Mills School and Indian Mills Memorial School. The polls are open from 1 PM to 8 PM.
