After recently undergoing a rebrand as a modern Italian eatery, Bacarosa in Nutley is closing its doors after less than four months in business.
In a Dec. 2 press release, owner GAC Hospitality shared, “The economics of this industry have always been challenging and even more so in recent times.”
The group established its presence in Nutley in September 2024 when it opened The Hudson Rose in the former Franklin Steakhouse on Franklin Avenue. The spot became known locally for its elevated American cuisine and expertly crafted cocktails.
This past July, the restaurant temporarily closed while Andrew Riccatelli, The Hudson Rose’s chef and Food Network “Chopped” champion, and general manager Eric Binder spearheaded an update of the space.
A few weeks later, Bacarosa debuted. Along with pizza, pasta, small bites and large-format shareable dishes, the restaurant features Italian-inspired cocktails, large wine list and a private event space.

According to GAC Hospitality, Bacarosa’s final day of service will be Dec. 20. Reservations are available here.
The owners also reflected on their time in Nutley. “We’ve had the privilege of hosting celebrations big and small, brunches, and dinners that lasted into the night. New friends were made and old friends reunited. Many of you chose us for your most meaningful moments, and it has been an honor to be part of those memories,” they wrote.
“We hope you’ll stop by to enjoy your favorite dishes while you still can and help us celebrate the final weeks of this chapter. We cannot thank you enough for your support, your enthusiasm, and the trust you placed in us. This chapter may be ending, but the relationships and moments we’ve shared will stay with us,” they said. “Thank you for allowing us to serve you.”
It is unclear what will take over the 4,000-square-foot space at 238 Franklin Ave. after Bacarosa goes dark.
A spokesperson for GAC Hospitality said the group does not plan to pursue a new concept there.
GAC Hospitality’s first restaurant, Point Pleasant casual dining spot Pop’s Corner, opened two years ago.
