Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta could be on the move this offseason, and the Mets may be in the best position to land the Brewers ace.
On Saturday, Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic reported on what it would take to land Peralta — and it’s good news for the Mets:
“Of the clubs in the mix for Peralta, the New York Mets might be in the best position to part with a prized young arm,” Rosenthal and Sammon write, “and they can do it without offering top prospect Nolan McLean.”
With top pitching prospects Brandon Sproat and Jonah Tong already having reached the majors last season, and Christian Scott nearing the end of his rehabilitation from Tommy John surgery, the Mets wouldn’t have to include Nolan McLean if they pursue a deal for Peralta, should the Brewers decide to trade him.
The Mets will have some competition in the pursuit of Peralta. The Athletic reports that the Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers are also in the mix.
Peralta has cemented his status as on of baseball’s best pitchers, taking the next step in 2025. Over his eight big league seasons, he’s shifted from a strikeout-focused ace into a durable workhorse
His career is defined by an ability to miss bats — he’s recorded three consecutive seasons with at least 200 strikeouts. In 2025 alone, he led the National League with 17 wins and posted a career-low 2.70 ERA, solidifying his second All-Star selection and earning NL Pitcher of the Month honors in August following a sensational 30-inning scoreless streak.
