A Paramus-headquarted, politically influential law firm will split, DeCotiis, FitzPatrick, Cole & Giblin announced on Thursday.
DeCotiis had been led by brothers, Joseph DeCotiis Sr. and Michael DeCotiis, who served as co-managing partners. Michael is splitting from the firm and launching his own with seven other attorneys, according to the announcement.
Their father, M. Robert DeCotiis, will remain chairman emeritus. Joseph, who will become the sole managing partner, is reforming the firm’s Executive Leadership Council.
“I’m incredibly proud of what we have accomplished in our 40-year history.” said Joseph M. DeCotiis Sr., Managing Partner. “Michael and I both believe this move makes sense for our common goals of providing exceptional services to our clients. We are committed to continued collaboration and working together as we have done for many decades.”
The transition will be completed by January 31st. The firm said a transition plan is in place for clients.
“This realignment comes after much deliberation and collaboration,” the firm stated. “For some time, Joseph M. DeCotiis Sr. and Michael R. DeCotiis have discussed their long-term visions for the firm and how best to align its structure with the evolving needs of its clients. After thoughtful consideration, both leaders concluded that this moment presents a unique opportunity to reimagine the firm’s future.”
