From career-best and clutch performances to a new bowler rolling the highest three-game series in the state, this past week across the N.J. girls bowling landscape was another outstanding one on the lanes.
Here are the bowlers who stole the show in our conference bowlers of the week for Jan. 16 through Jan. 22.
Each week, NJ Advance Media will select Bowlers of the Week in every conference for both boys and girls, highlighting the best individual efforts around the state. Any matches bowled on Jan. 23 will be included in next week’s honors unless otherwise noted.
Note: Girls who bowl on boys/co-ed teams must have the “female participant” box checked on the roster on njschoolsports.com in order to be considered for the girls BOW.
Big North Conference
Isabella Brunson, Bergen Tech, Jr.
Brunson is on the best roll of her career on the lanes for the Knights. The junior has recorded a 211 average through her last three dual matches, which included a high series of 661 against Fort Lee on Jan. 19. She also rolled a season-best game of 257 and a three-game set of 616 on Jan. 21 to help Bergen Tech win its 10th dual match of the season.
Burlington County Scholastic League
Sofia Bickford, Medford Tech, Sr.
Bickford recorded back-to-back 500 three-game series for the first time this week to help Medford Tech soar to 13-2 on the season. The senior currently holds a team-leading 152 average on the lanes this winter.
Greater Middlesex Conference
Savanah Funk, Old Bridge, Sr.
Led by Funk’s high series of 570 on Wednesday, Old Bridge scored a 3-1 victory over Monroe. The three-game set was a season best for Funk, who also rolled a high game of 204 in the victory.
Hudson County Interscholastic Athletic League
Luany De Almeida Ribeiro, Kearny, So.
Ribeiro recorded a season-best three-game set of 470 on Jan. 16 to lead Kearny to a sweep over Lincoln. The sophomore followed up the performance with a high game of 170 and a high series of 453 on Wednesday to help Kearny win its fifth dual match of the season.
Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference
Kadee Bruno, High Point, Jr.
Bruno continued her stellar junior campaign on Wednesday by rolling a high series of 647 during the team’s victory over Lenape Valley. It’s the fourth time this season that Bruno has recorded a three-game set over 600. She currently holds a 191 average on the lanes this winter.
North Jersey Interscholastic Conference
Hailey Smith, Mary Help of Christians, So.
Last Friday’s Passaic County Tournament saw Smith stand tall in the girls division with a high game of 205 and a high series of 523 to help Mary Help of Christians place second in the team standings.
Olympic Conference
Tatum Walsh, Seneca, Sr.
Walsh (175 average) delivered a career-high performance on Wednesday against Middle Township, recording a high series of 588 to lead Seneca to its sixth win of the season.
Shore Conference
Raelin Taustine, Monmouth, Jr.
For the first time in her high school career, Taustine recorded a three-game series over 600 on Jan. 20 during the team’s dual match against St. John Vianney. Taustine rolled a high series of 637 to lead Monmouth to a 2-1 victory over SJV. The junior also recorded a season-best 266 game during the dual match.
Skyland Conference
Amoura Caul, Phillipsburg, Fr.
Caul tallied a career-best performance on Wednesday to keep Phillipsburg unbeaten on the lanes. The freshman notched a high game of 212 and finished the dual match against Irvington with a high series of 512. It marked the first time this season that Caul has rolled a game over 200 and a 500 three-game series.
Super Essex Conference
Rykel McFarlane, Belleville, Sr.
McFarlane lived her dream on Thursday during the Essex County Individual Tournament. The senior rolled a high series of 502 during the qualifying round to stamp her spot in the stepladder final. She went on to win the girls stepladder final, 191-187, to win her first county championship. McFarlane also helped Belleville win the girls team title at the county tournament on Tuesday.
Tri-County Conference
Annabelle Carter, Gloucester Tech, Sr.
Carter set a new state-leading mark for a three-game series this winter on Tuesday during the team’s victory over Kingsway. The senior saw her high game of 267 lead to her rolling a high series of 743 during the dual match. Over her last three dual matches, Carter holds a 212 average on the lanes.
