Kittatinny wins first HWS boys swimming title in program history

Nathaniel Kern led Kittatinny to the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Championships title with a meet record performance in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall in 50.44 seconds. Kern also placed second in the 50 free with a time of 21.68.

Kittatinny captured the championship with 236 points, edging Sparta/Jefferson’s 209 points. The team also won the 200 medley relay in 1:40.23 and set a meet record in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:17.07.

Jonathan Kern, Ty Hollar, Channing Muller and Nathaniel Kern made up the meet-record relay team in the 400 FR.

Jonathan Kern contributed to Kittatinny’s success with a victory in the 200 free, finishing in 1:45.90. He added a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.32. Hollar won the 200 IM in 2:02.25 and placed third in the 500 free at 5:09.28. John Wintermute took third in the 100 fly with a time of 58.40.

Sparta/Jefferson finished second despite strong individual performances. Danny Westervelt won both the 100 free in 47.65 and the 100 backstroke in 53.10. Jack McGurrin captured the 500 free in 4:56.44.

Westervelt was named the meet MVP.
