Louis Galasso scored a game-high 19 points to lead Cherokee to a convincing 56-28 victory over Hammonton in Saturday morning’s non-conference matchup in Marlton.
Cherokee (13-8) took control early, building a 16-8 advantage in the first quarter and extending its lead to 26-13 by halftime. Cherokee continued its strong play in the second half, particularly in the fourth quarter where it outscored Hammonton 21-9 to seal the win.
Galasso was efficient from the field, connecting on five 2-pointers and three 3-pointers. Tony Fuscia and John Comito each contributed nine points for Cherokee, while Chris Walters added eight points.
For Hammonton (12-9), Greg Smith led the way with 14 points, including two 3-pointers and going 4-for-6 from the free-throw line. Nazir Blackwell added six points in the losing effort.
Cherokee’s offense was clicking throughout the game, with the team hitting seven 3-pointers compared to Hammonton’s four. Cherokee’s balanced scoring attack featured six players with at least four points, while Hammonton struggled to find consistent offense beyond Smith.
The victory improves Cherokee’s overall record to 13-8, though it remains 1-5 in Olympic-American division play. Hammonton drops to 12-9 overall while maintaining its 8-4 record in the Cape-Atlantic United division.
