Sworn into office Jan. 20, Gov. Sherrill has hit the ground running, signaling from the inaugural stage that her administration intends to move quickly and decisively. New Jersey’s 57th governor campaigned on affordability and competitiveness, with rising energy costs emerging as a central issue. A former Navy helicopter pilot, federal prosecutor and four-term member of Congress, Sherrill entered office pledging action on day one — and delivered.
During her inauguration, Sherrill signed executive orders declaring a state of emergency on utility costs and freezing certain rules and regulatory actions tied to electricity pricing while her administration conducts a broader review. She followed that with additional orders aimed at streamlining permitting, cutting regulatory delays and improving government operations, framing the moves as essential to lowering costs and making it easier to do business here, which industry leaders applauded.
She also has been an ardent supporter of the Gateway Program – since she was in Congress – and has pushed back against the Trump administration’s funding freeze, including filing a lawsuit with New York and stressing that her administration will continue to fight.
And of course, all eyes in the state will watch for her upcoming, first Budget Address.
