Launched in 2014, the program provides training for professionals who have a passion for working in the industry, possess an interest in the dynamics and trends of government and want to make a difference.
What’s involved
As part of the curriculum, participants meet with state legislators in Trenton, attend meetings with members of Congress in Washington, D.C., and network with industry leaders, according to NJFC.

NJFC President and CEO Linda Doherty shared, “The program is unique as it focuses on public policy, industry trends, and networking, targeting future leaders in food retail, wholesale, and manufacturing.”
Organization Chair Jason Read shared, “Together, we are not just responding to what’s next, we are helping shape it.”
“We recognize that our future depends on up-and-coming leaders,” said Read, a director of store operations for Wawa.
This year’s class will graduate at the NJFC political action committee’s annual Good Government breakfast in October, the group said.
Jessica Scaduto of Food Circus Foodtown said the opportunity enabled her to gain “a deeper understanding of the Food Council’s work and advocacy efforts.”
The program graduate added, “The experiences it offers are invaluable, equipping participants with the skills and insights needed for leadership roles.”
Matt Lipowski of J&J Snack Foods said going through the program was “an incredible opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with inspiring leaders.”
