The Cape May County Regular Republican Organization last night endorsed Alex Zdan for U.S. Senate, giving the former News 12 reporter his fifth county slogan in his bid to take on Democrat Cory Booker in the fall.
“Alex Zdan has spent time in Cape May County and knows our brand of conservatism, focused on fighting for freedom, prosperity, and the pursuit of happiness for every working family, is the banner that New Jersey Republicans need to pick up and carry,” said Cape May County GOP Chairman Mike Donohue. “We look forward to supporting Alex in his campaign to bring fiscal sanity and opportunity back. It’s time to turn the page on disastrous woke policies that are hurting the people of New Jersey.”
None of the Senate candidates submitted letters of intent in time to compete at the Cape May Republican convention; instead, a screening committee was formed to endorse an opponent for Booker. Zdan emerged as the unanimous choice of that process.
Zdan has won the backing of GOP organizations in Burlington, Essex, and Passaic counties.
Another candidate, State Trooper Richard Tabor, has received party support in Atlantic, Hudson, Hunterdon, and Union. But recent news about his role in a wrongful death lawsuit, and an internal investigation into him by the State Police.
Former Tabernacle Deputy Mayor Justin Michael Murphy has secured organization support in Camden, Gloucester, and Mercer counties. A fourth candidate, Englewood physician Robert Lebovics, is preparing to join the race and has hired a top national Republican media firm, Jamestown Associates.
