New Jersey-born chains are toasting National Meatball Day with specials.
PrimoHoagies plans to celebrate the occasion by giving away a year’s worth of food.
As part of a contest running March 9–15, 10 rewards members will receive coupons to redeem 12 free primo size hoagies, according to the Westville-based franchise. Click here for more details on how to enter.
Additionally, PrimoHoagies will offer 50% off its primo size old world meatball hoagies for the March 9 food holiday. The promotion is available all day across the chain’s 125-plus locations.
Recently named as one of the best meatball subs from a restaurant chain by foodie website Eat This, Not That, PrimoHoagie’s version is “inspired by grandma’s recipe.”
The hoagie consists of meatballs made from a three-part blend of veal, beef and pork. It’s topped with a signature blend of Italian seasonings, provolone, grated Romano cheese and marinara sauce.

Smashing success
Meanwhile, QuickChek is marking National Meatball Day with an expanded lineup built around the classic meatball sub sandwich.
The Whitehouse Station-headquartered convenience store chain recently dropped the following five new variations:
- Smashed meatball with marinara & vodka sauce
- Loaded smashed meatball, garlic aioli, chicken & pepperoni
- Meatball with marinara & vodka sauce
- Meatball with vodka sauce
- Meatball marinara
According to a spokesperson, the smashed meatball items are available only as $4.99 subwiches. The three other new offerings can be made as a traditional 6-inch or 12-inch sub, the rep said.
The additions follow the chain’s successful rollout of smashed meatball subs last fall. In reimagining a class offering, QuickCheck said it aimed to bring “improved eatability, new sauce combinations, and even more flavor with every bite.”
By smashing the meatballs before cooking, the chain said the process enables heat to distribute more evenly and create crispy edges. QuickChek said the method also allows better sauce and cheese retention for maximum flavor.
The five newly added items demonstrate “how convenience retailers continue to invest in prepared food programs as they compete with quick-service restaurants and local delis,” QuickChek’s media rep said.
A Murphy USA subsidiary, QuickChek has 150-plus locations across New Jersey and New York.

East Rutherford-based Mama’s Creations is offering a 15% discount on meatballs purchased via its e-commerce site.
Additionally, Mama’s Creations is running a National Meatball Day Giveaway all day March 9. Altogether, 100 customers will score a three-pack of the company’s signature Mama Mancini’s branded jumbo meatballs. Click here to enter.
Winners will be announced by March 30, according to the company.
Founded in 2010, Mama’s Creations makes and distributes all-natural beef, turkey, chicken, pork meatballs and other Italian products. Its lineup can be found at retailers including BJ’s Wholesale Club, ShopRite, Publix and Costco.
