With Honor Fund will support Somerset County Commissioner Shanel Robinson (D-Franklin) for the 12th congressional district, giving Robinson a well-funded ally in the crowded Democratic primary for the seat.
The national group is a “cross-partisan organization dedicated to electing military veterans,” and Robinson is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force Reserves. Notably, she’s not the only military veteran running for the district; Adam Hamawy and Rick Morales, both U.S. Army veterans and doctors, are also in the race.
“As an Air Force Veteran and Somerset County Commissioner Director, [Robinson] has dedicated her career to serving her community with integrity,” With Honor Fund said in a brief statement.
With Honor Fund has allied with other New Jersey politicians in the past, most prominently Gov. Mikie Sherrill and Rep. Herb Conaway (D-Delran). The group spent more than $900,000 over the course of several election cycles to support Sherrill, and another $229,000 during Conaway’s campaign for an open seat in 2024.
Zach Beecher, one of the many candidates who ran to succeed Sherrill after she was elected governor, also received With Honor Fund’s endorsement earlier this year. But the group never spent any money to boost him (though a related group, VoteVets, made a $300,000 investment), and he ended up coming in a distant eighth place.
Seventeen Democrats are running for the 12th district, a safely Democratic Central Jersey seat that’s open thanks to Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing)’s retirement.
