The basics:
- Carlos Medina stepped down as head of the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey
- He served the organization for more than 20 years
- Under his leadership, membership grew to more than 7,000 businesses statewide
- Chamber expanded programs supporting Hispanic-owned businesses and entrepreneurship
Carlos Medina has resigned as president, CEO and board member of the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey after more than two decades with the organization.
SHCCNJ announced the move March 16.
Medina joined the chamber’s board of directors in 2005, became chairman in 2012 and was named president and CEO in 2019.
During his tenure, Medina helped transform the chamber into the largest in New Jersey and one of the most influential Hispanic business organizations in the U.S., expanding membership to more than 7,000 businesses and turning a $300,000 deficit into a multimillion-dollar operation.
To his credit
Under his leadership, the chamber strengthened its advocacy for New Jersey’s more than 150,000 Hispanic-owned businesses, which contribute over $100 billion annually to the state’s economy. Medina also launched programs such as the Executive Training Program and the Latino Entrepreneurship Training Series. These initiatives provide free business education, mentorship and resources to hundreds of small business owners.
The chamber credited Medina with building strong partnerships across corporate, government, and community sectors while guiding the organization through challenging periods, including helping direct relief resources to minority-owned businesses during times of economic hardship.
The board thanked him for elevating the chamber from a regional voice to a statewide force supporting Latino entrepreneurs and said his impact will continue through the programs and relationships he established.

“We accept Carlos Medina’s decision to resign after more than 20 years of leadership,” said SHCCNJ Chairman Luis De La Hoz. “His impact on New Jersey’s economic growth and the inclusion of our multicultural businesses in the state’s economy has been extraordinary.”
“As we move forward, our experienced Board, representing corporate, government, and community organizations across the state, remains committed, as a familia, to the programs and partnerships that drive economic growth for our members, stakeholders, and the broader small business community,” the SHCCNJ board said. “The programs Carlos championed, the relationships he forged, and the doors he opened will endure well beyond his tenure. He transformed SHCCNJ from a regional voice into a statewide force, and the Latino business community is stronger today for the foundation he built.
“As he moves on to his next chapter and endeavors, the Board expressed full confidence that his leadership and dedication to the community will continue. The Board extends its deepest gratitude for his service.”
