Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace is celebrating Saint Joseph’s Day by offering free pastries to customers who share the same name as the holiday’s patron saint.
The promotion will take place March 19. Under the deal, the Italian specialty grocery chain will give one free pastry to shoppers named Joseph, Josephine, Josie, Josette, Giuseppe, Joe or any derivative.
Recipients must show a valid ID to score their freshly made treat of choice. According to the grocer, there is a limit of one per customer.
March 19 is also widely celebrated as Father’s Day in Italy. The holiday is known for traditional goodies, such as Italian cream-filled doughnuts known as sfingi and zeppole.
According to a spokesperson, Uncle Giuseppe’s has given complimentary pastries on the holiday in the past on a smaller scale. The brand wanted to extend it to all 12 locations this year, they said.
In a statement to NJBIZ, chain President Mike Nelson said, “It’s our way of honoring a beloved tradition and thanking the loyal shoppers who have made the last 25 years possible.”
