As it continues to build out its executive ranks, Valley National Bancorp has welcomed Curt Lang to oversee the Garden State.
The new hire joins the Morristown-based financial institution from M&T Bank. At Valley, Lang will lead strategic direction and drive the local commercial banking portfolio as chief banking officer for New Jersey.

Gino Martocci, senior executive vice president and president of commercial banking for Valley, said Lang comes on board with “a proven track record achieving commercial growth in New Jersey.” A spokesperson for the bank confirmed the position is a new one for Valley.
“His deep market expertise and commitment to helping businesses succeed align perfectly with Valley’s relationship banking philosophy,” Martocci said.
At M&T, Lang most recently served as senior vice president and regional head of commercial banking for New Jersey. According to Valley, while with the Buffalo-based bank, Lang consistently led the region to achieve top-quartile performance in growth, profitability and client engagement. He spent more than 14 years at that bank.
He has also held roles with Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania, Provident Bank in Baltimore and SouthTrust Bank in Huntsville, Ala., Valley said.
Team building
“I’m thrilled to join Valley at such an exciting time for the bank’s commercial growth,” said Lang. “New Jersey has an incredibly dynamic business community, and I look forward to leveraging my local relationships and leadership experience to help our clients and teams thrive.”
In recent weeks, Valley has also made several other key appointments:
Martocci, too, joined Valley earlier this year, also moving over from M&T Bank. The industry veteran earned distinction as an NJBIZ People to Watch in Finance this fall.
Lang earned a Master of Science in Management from the University of Alabama. He received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Salisbury University.
