Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill reportedly will nominate her pick for the next attorney general of New Jersey Dec. 15.
New Jersey Globe said the incoming administration will announce Jennifer Davenport as the 57th AG for the state. A veteran prosecutor and current PSEG employee, Davenport is also a past New Jersey commissioner on the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor.
Sherrill is scheduled to announce a cabinet member at 11 a.m. in Newark Monday, the Globe said.
The governor-elect has been busy building her extensive Transition Action Team, ahead of her Jan. 20, 2026, inauguration as the state’s 57th governor. Sherrill also previously announced Lt. Gov.-elect Dale Caldwell will serve as secretary of state, and Kellie Doucette as New Jersey’s first chief operations officer.
Davenport currently serves as deputy general counsel and chief litigation counsel for Newark-based PSEG, according to her LinkedIn profile.
She served as first assistant attorney general for New Jersey from 2021 to 2022 and from 2018 to 2020. Other public positions in Davenport’s CV include serving as counsel to the New Jersey Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration and acting Union County prosecutor. Before joining the AG’s office here, she spent seven years as an assistant U.S. attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey, where she served as chief of the general crimes unit.
During her campaign, Sherrill vowed to declare a state of emergency on utility costs on her first day in Trenton. New Jersey Globe noted that this combination could cause Davenport to recuse herself from any potential challenges down the line.
