Leadership is changing at one of New Jersey’s top law firms. As of Jan. 1, Jennifer Borek is the new managing partner of Genova Burns LLC, the Newark-based firm said in a press release.
Borek is the first woman to hold the firm’s top leadership role in its more than 35-year history. She will oversee strategic direction and operations while continuing to maintain an active practice.
A highly accomplished attorney, Borek focuses on complex commercial litigation, contracts, procurement law, employment litigation and appellate advocacy. Additionally, she has played a key role in firm leadership by mentoring attorneys, fostering collaboration across practice groups and contributing to long-term strategic initiatives, the firm said.
Borek succeeds firm co-founder Jim Burns in the position. According to a firm spokesperson, Burns will return to practice as a partner.
Commenting on the leadership transition, Burns said, “The firm builds on Jennifer’s more than two decades at Genova Burns, particularly over the last several years when she was tapped to lead the firm’s commercial litigation practice to a new level. “
He went on to praise Borek for her “well-earned reputation for common sense, crisp, analytical intelligence and no-nonsense, get-to-the-point approach.”
“I am proud to turn the reins over to Jen,” Burns said.
Reflecting on her new role, Borek said she was honored to begin managing Genova Burns.
“I look forward to working with our firm’s founding partners to continue the firm’s commitment to excellence in the profession; and – along with our extraordinary lawyers and staff – building and growing upon that legacy,” she said.
A full-service law firm with four offices in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, Genova Burns serves clients across a range of industries. Its expertise includes litigation, labor and employment, corporate law, bankruptcy, real estate, health care, public law and regulatory matters.
