Ally Snyder posted 14 points to lead fifth-seeded Glen Ridge to a 45-32 win over 12th-seeded Newark Academy in the first round of the Essex County Tournament in Glen Ridge.

Glen Ridge (10-8) will face fourth-seeded University in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 7.
The Ridgers led 26-11 at halftime and extended the lead to as much as 18 in the third quarter. Newark Academy (11-6) reduced the deficit to nine with four minutes left in the game but couldn’t cut more into the lead thereafter.
Annabel Koss-Defrank added 10 points to the win while Caitlin Hood scored eight points.
Eden Avery posted 13 points, seven rebounds and five steals for Newark Academy while erica reed finished with nine points, seven rebounds and four assists.
