A nationwide recall of Chips Ahoy! Baked Bites Brookie due to a potential choking hazard is being expanded to include additional units of the product, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
East Hanover-based Mondelēz Global originally issued a voluntary recall of the brownie-style cookie bites in December 2025 because of an error during the mixing process that caused small clumps of corn starch to form.
The properties of the clumps could present a choking hazard, particularly for young children and older adults, the consumer packaged goods company said.
In a Feb. 4 notice, the FDA said the action was broadened to cover one additional best-by date and two more UPC codes.
According to the agency, the overall scope of the recall now encompasses four packaging sizes of the product that were “distributed through a limited number of retail stores nationwide.” Additional details on how many cases or states impacted were not provided.
According to FDA, the recalled items are as follows:
- 22.4-oz. carton containing eight Chips Ahoy! Baked Bites Brookie pouches UPC: 44000086688 and best-by dates between May 9-12, 2026
- 7-oz. Chips Ahoy! Baked Bites Brookie pouches UPC: 44000085650 and best-by dates of May 10, 12 and 18, 2026
- 2.8-oz. Chips Ahoy! Baked Bites Brookie UPC: 4400008667 and best-by dates of May 9–12, 2026
- 1.4-oz. pouch of Chips Ahoy! Baked Bites Brookie UPC: 4400008566 and best-by dates of May 10, 12 and 18, 2026
No other Mondelēz products are included in the action and there have been no reports of injury or illness related to the affected item, according to the company.
Consumers who have the product are urged not to eat it. They may also contact the company at 1-855-535-5948 for more information.
Mondelēz has initiated two other recalls in recent months.
In July and November,it recalled Ritz Cracker Sandwiches due to labeling errors that could pose a life-threatening risk to individuals with peanut allergies.
A media representative from Mondelēz did not immediately respond to a request for comments on the recalls.
