Lobbyist Regina Appolon has left Princeton Public Affairs Group to join the government affairs practice of McCarter & English, a politically significant New Jersey law firm.
Appolon has worked as deputy chief of staff and legislative director to Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-Sayreville) and as chief of staff to Assemblywoman (now State Senator) Angela McKnight (D-Jersey City).
“Regina was an integral member of my team whose work made a meaningful impact on our constituents,” McKnight said. “She is also a strong leader in the New Jersey Legislative Black Caucus Foundation, and she will certainly be an asset to McCarter.”
“She is well-known in Trenton and beyond, and her strong reputation and experience in state government make her an invaluable resource to our clients who seek strategic advice and insight,” said Guillermo Artiles, who chairs McCarter’s government affairs practice.
Appolon is the treasurer of the New Jersey Legislative Black Caucus Foundation and serves on the board of the NY/NJ Baykeeper.
McCarter & English is one of the state’s largest law firms, and the two sons of its founder served as attorney general of New Jersey: Thomas McCarter, a former New Jersey Senate Majority Leader, was nominated as the state’s top law enforcement official in 1902 by Gov. Franklin Murphy. His brother, Robert McCarter, succeeded him after he resigned to become president of the Public Service Corporation (now PSE&G) in 1903.
During the era of Jersey City Mayor Frank Hague, Robert McCarter served as counsel to a legislative committee investigating allegations of voter fraud in Hudson County during the 1930s.
The firm’s government affairs team, led by Artiles, who worked for two New Jersey governors, includes: New Jersey’s Republican National Committeeman Bill Palatucci; Michael Maitland, a former chief of staff to Rep. Donald Norcross and aide to US Senator Frank Lautenberg; Brian Wilton, the first-ever General Counsel of NJ Transit; Stephanie Olivo, the former Compliance Director for the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC); Vincent Mauro, Jr., former chief of staff for Connecticut’s Senate Democrats; Christian Callegari, former Campaign Deputy Political Director to Governor Mikie Sherrill and Chief of Staff to Mayor Andre Sayegh. Michael Murphy, a former prosecutor of Morris County and candidate for Governor of New Jersey, works for McCarter Government Solutions, LLC.
Another McCarter veteran, Kat Tung, recently departed to join the senior staff of Gov. Mikie Sherrill.
