The New Jersey Bankers Association (NJBankers) recently held its second Food Truck to Fight Food Insecurity in Trenton to support state residents facing food insecurity through the fall months and beyond.
Red’s Rolling Restaurant was parked outside the State Library and saw a steady stream of customers throughout the afternoon, including individuals who work in and around the New Jersey State House. The NJBankers Charitable Foundation matched the day’s $1,000 in sales to benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFNJ) and the children, families and seniors it serves.
“As families settle into the school year and we approach the holidays, many of our neighbors continue to face challenges putting food on the table. The support of partners like NJBankers helps us provide food to our neighbors when they need it most,” said Elizabeth McCarthy, president and CEO of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
The food truck event – which was first held in June – is part of the Bankers Care program, an initiative that highlights the investment banks make in the welfare of their communities, whether it’s through volunteerism, charitable giving, financial literacy, participation in community programs and more.
“As more New Jerseyans face challenges putting food on the table, our state’s banks remain committed to supporting the communities they serve,” said Michael Affuso, NJBankers president and CEO. “Through initiatives like the Food Truck to Fight Food Insecurity, we’re helping provide individuals and families with the resources they need while demonstrating the meaningful difference banks can make in the lives of their neighbors.”
According to Community FoodBank of New Jersey, more than 1.2 million people in New Jersey are food insecure, including over 330,000 children. The majority of households served by the food bank have at least one member with a paying job – some work multiple jobs but still struggle to make ends meet.
