TRENTON — The Thunder finished their home slate in style.
John Schroeder and Tyler Collins combined to knock in five runs, Connor Hults pitched six effective innings and the Thunder beat State College, 7-3, on Sunday afternoon for their fifth straight victory.
Trenton improved to 22-19 in the second half and 37-36 overall. Shawn Chacon’s club is in line to finish second in the second half behind West Virginia, which has already clinched the second-half crown and a spot in the championship game against first-half winner State College.
Schroeder, out of Florida Atlantic, put the cherry on top with a two-run homer in the eighth inning. It was his fourth of the season.
Hults, a lefty out of Florida State, struck out five and walked three while holding the Spikes to one run on three hits over his six innings.
The Thunder were 9-for-9 on stolen bases.
They have three games remaining in Frederick to finish out the summer.
