Cibo Vita joined the ranks of New Jersey’s top manufacturers in a big way. The Totowa-based healthy snack maker tied for first place with Viking Yacht Co. in state employment, according to new research from the NJBIZ Leads & Data Center. Each employs 1,400 people in the Garden State.
Based in New Gretna, Viking has been building boats since 1964; Cibo Vita was founded in 2009.
Benjamin Moore ranked third with 888 employees. Founded in 1883, the paint company is based in Montvale. Camden-based Holtec International, a nuclear technology provider, held fourth place with 800 employees. Rounding out the top five is chemical maker Syensqo ranked with 525 employees. The Lawrence-based manufacturer traces its operations to 1863.
MICRO took sixth place with 416 employees. Founded in 1945, the stamping company operates from Somerset.
Ridgefield Park-based Star Candle Co. ranked seventh with 300 employees. The candle maker was founded nearly 65 years ago. Mazza Recycling Services, of Tinton Falls, held eighth place with 273 employees.
Thermwell Products, based in Mahwah, ranked ninth with 250 employees. The company has been manufacturing products since 1910. Allen Flavors fills out the top 10 with 220 employees. Founded in 1990, the flavor company operates from South Plainfield. Elsewhere, Hanovia Specialty Lighting, which is more than a century old, ranked 25th with 12 employees.
Employment numbers varied across New Jersey manufacturers, from companies with over 1,000 workers to operations with fewer than 20 people.
