New Concepts for Living cut the ribbon Oct. 16 on a new, state-of-the-art home in Mahwah for medically fragile individuals with special needs.
NCFL provides services for adults living with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).
The NCFL team was joined by Mahwah Mayor Jim Wysocki, local leaders, families and guardians for the celebration.
The new 5,400-square-foot facility is one of four new special needs homes the Paramus-based nonprofit will open in Bergen County. It is the fifth medically supportive home NCFL owns and operates.
While NCFL is not revealing the cost of the facility, a representative told NJBIZ the land was donated by Mahwah Township.
The home expands housing options for people with special needs while also helping to meet the municipality’s affordable housing obligations. NCFL added that the state provides bonus credits to municipalities toward these obligations for each unit of special needs housing.
A place to call home
“We are thrilled to work with a partner, like NCFL, that is dedicated to serving the I/DD community and providing high-quality residences and care for adults with special needs,” Wysocki said in a statement. “This home not only helps Mahwah meet our affordable housing requirements, but it will serve a population that is too often overlooked yet equally deserving of a safe, comfortable place to call home.”
The new home includes:
- Six bedrooms
- 24/7 nursing care and support
- 24/7 on-call behavioral support
- Extra-wide hallways
- Roll-in showers
- Hoyer Lifts to help staff safely move residents
- Advanced smart home technology

Expanding care
NCFL also recently opened two new 3,200-square-foot, four-bedroom homes in River Vale. That municipality also donated the land.

“All of our homes are designed to meet the specific needs of all residents living there while fitting seamlessly in the surrounding community,” said NCFL CEO Steve Setteducati. “Adults with I/DD deserve not just a place to live, but a home where they can thrive.”
Earlier this year, NCFL reopened its Rochelle Park Achievement Center, which serves as its second day program location. The Rochelle Park facility provides skills training, recreational activities and community inclusion opportunities for more independent, lower-need individuals. The second site, in Paramus, primarily serves those with greater needs.
