The Tri-County Championships proved to be a big day for Glassboro.
Glassboro ended a 41-year title drought at the Tri-County Championships, and also secured an individual champion for the third straight season.
On the girls side, a senior from Williamstown won her second straight title, while Delsea secured its second straight title.
Here’s everything that went down at Cumberland High School.
GIRLS
Williamstown senior Sophia Aldridge continued to show why she’s one of the very best runners in South Jersey, winning her first Tri-County Conference title in 18:35.94
Aldridge shed roughly 30 seconds off her previous course best at Cumberland Regional High School’s XC course (19:06.74). She’s the first Williamstown runner to win a conference title since 2012, when Vicky Ajimoko covered Cumberland’s course in 18:16.
Aldridge win caps off a dominant regular season. The Williamstown senior has six wins this fall, including a Gloucester County & South Jersey Shootout title.
On the team side, Delsea, who fell to Kingsway by just three points at the Gloucester County Championships earlier this month, turned the tables on Thursday. Packing five runners in the Top 20, the Crusaders secured its second straight team title over Clearview (76) and Kingsway (79).
Freshman Brooke Mashburn continued her strong rookie year, securing a fifth-place medal (20:16.48). Brooke’s older sister, Olivia Mashburn, ran a season-best 20:33.44 to place ninth overall (20:33.44).
Senior Isabella Moran (12th, 20:50.60), freshman Ziada Nassradine (9th, 21:05.87) and senior Sofia Moran (18th, 21:18.51) packed in tightly together. Delsea’s five runner spread has been key to their success all season long. On Thursday, they had a low compression of 1:02.
BOYS
For the first time since 1984, Glassboro has won a Tri-County Conference title.
Led by Joseph Saicic’s individual victory (15:58.55), Glassboro ended a 41-year drought in dominant fashion, beating second-place finisher and last year’s champion Highland, 48-98.
Saicic’s win gives Glassboro a individual conference champion for three consecutive years. Ty Blackman won last year’s title in 15:49.74, while Elijah Whitaker won the 2023 title in 15:47.78.
Like they did at the Gloucester County meet, Glassboro’s top three dominated up front. After Williamstown’s Logan Pavelik crossed in second place (16:07.62), Glassboro’s Zacchaeus Harrigan ran a lifetime best 16:07.86 to place third overall. Right behind him was senior Jaeden Wesley, who clocked a 20-second PR.
Sophomore Aaron Johnson ran 16:39.85 for 11th place, while Jason Martin placed 29th overall with a time of 17:41.05 to round out the top five.
