The race for two Cumberland County Commissioner seats remains too close to call, with the 749 vote-by-mail ballots and 637 provisional ballots still uncounted.
Democrat John Capizola, Jr. is leading for one seat, with 19,074 votes, and Republican incumbent Douglas Albrecht is in second place with 18,647 votes. Another Democratic challenger, Yolanda Garcia Balicki, is 199 votes behind Albrecht with 18,448 votes, and the Republican incumbent, Victoria Lods, is in fourth place with 18,257 votes – 390 votes behind her running mate.
The deadline for late-arriving VBM ballots that were postmarked by 8 PM on November 4 is the close of business today. The mail-in ballots will be counted before the provisionals, which are currently being verified.
Of the outstanding VBMs, 278 (37%) are from Bridgeton and 67 (9%) are from Millville – both Democratic-leaning municipalities – and 171 (23%) are from Vineland, a swing town.
Slightly more than half of the provisional ballots (50.2%) are from Vineland.
